Our WDFL side took on Bay FC from Dundalk in the first round of the Leinster Junior Cup this afternoon at Whitegates. The opening minutes saw the sides very cagey. Fifteen minutes in Rovers went in front with a neat finish from James Lang. This game was proving to be a tight affair with little in the way of clear cut chances in the first half. The only other chance of note fell to the away side and they tucked it away to level matters six minutes before the break. Eight minutes into the second period Rovers were in front, a cross from the left was met by Dylan Frazer whose effort was blocked on the line but Frazer was the quickest to react to the breaking ball to fire home to put Rovers 2-1 up. Rovers looked the more dangerous team going forward but they weren't taking their chances and it was from one of those missed chances that the away team broke upfield to score and level matters. Luca Rampersaud was sprung from the bench and it proved to be a masterstroke decision, with eight minutes remaining Rampersaud raced onto a through ball, rounded the keeper and blasted home for what proved to be the winner. Alan Power and James Lang were very industrious for Rovers in a workman like performance by the team to see them progress to the second round.
